Characteristic estimation of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) emission affecting the air quality by PTR-ToF-MS in fine-dust extensive management districts

INTRODUCTION

Volatile organic compounds play an important role as precursors for ozone and secondary organic aerosol. Therefore, the investigation of the emission characteristics of VOCs is crucial for air quality management in Seoul and mobile real-time monitoring is the basis for achieving this goal Mobile lab can measure and analyze the concentration, ingredients and causative agents of PM by time and region in real time so that it can trace the emission source of pollutants and secure the scientific foundation to solve the problems of PM in Seoul.
This study was conducted to investigate the concentration distribution of 19 VOCs and the contribution of Particulate matters(PM2.5) in nine roadside, commercial and industrial complex autonomous districts during PM control season.
We used a Proton Transfer Reaction “Time-of-Flight” Mass Spectrometer(PTR-ToF-MS), which couples high sensitivity with high mass resolution, for real-time detection of multiple VOCs emitted by fine-dust extensive management districts.
